Air Quality

NASA reported that houseplants were able to reduce up to 87 percent of air toxins in 24 hours. They recommended using 15 to 18 'good-sized' houseplants in 6 to 8-inch diameter containers for an 1800 square-foot house.

Advoid microwaving polycarbonate plastic, which is used in packaging for many microwaveable foods and may release BPA when heated
Remove food from plastic wrap, freezer cartons, and/or styrofoam trays before defrosting and cooking. they are not heat stable and could leach hazardous compounds from the container or plastic wrap to the food.

Strategies to Reduce BPA Exposure
Until BPA is fully banned, consumers should be advised to avoid polycarbonate bottles, particularly those that are scratched or old. Glass baby bottles of BPA-free alternatives should be utilized. If infant formula is necessary, powdered preparations are preferred to avoid the BPA-containing packaging that comes with liquid formulations. Canned food should be eaten as little as possible, and the pros and cons of dental sealants should be heavily considered. Finally, products that come in recycle #7 containers should not be purchased.
